Truckee, CA, February 22, 2012, - Prospective students, parents and community members are invited to explore the reality of customized teaching and learning during the Spring 2012 Custom Learning Academy (CLA) Open House in Truckee from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March
21. CLA employs a highly personalized approach to education, offers national standard-based curriculum tailored to the individual needs of each student and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

CLA began as a tutoring service in 2005 when Lisa Crosby, a veteran public school teacher, observed the strong demand for alternatives among families. Since then demand has grown and CLA, a private, non-profit college preparatory school, has attracted top educators as well as students from as far away as Reno who attend on a daily basis for the nurturing environment, academic results and enviable 10 to 1 elementary student to teacher ratio (12 to 1 for middle and high
school students). Serving Kindergarten through twelfth grade students, CLA teaches more than 150 full and part time learners. CLA is located between the Trout Creek Recreational Center and The Lodge in Tahoe
Donner.

We're opening our doors to engage students, showcase outstanding faculty and answer questions about the enriching, year round learning environment CLA offers students, explains Lisa Crosby, CLA's director. We meet students where they are and teach to mastery because we know children benefit academically - across subjects in a customized learning environment. Our unique 21st century school design appeals to the 'iGeneration' and motivates a love of learning.

Open house agenda:
The open house begins at 6 p.m. on March 21 with age appropriate breakout sessions featuring interactive activities for children and information for parents and interested community members. Soon-to-be kindergarten and first grade students will use water colors to paint a still life in celebration of springtime, second and third graders will have the opportunity to explore adjectives through a creative art project and fourth and fifth grade students will be enthralled with a
science experiment involving magnetism. Older students will also be engaged. Middle school students will have a hands-on project and high school students will explore ancient Egypt through an engaging display
created by current CLA students (all children should be accompanied by an adult).

Following the breakout sessions everyone will gather to enjoy complimentary refreshments and learn about CLA's distinctive approach that guarantees academic success. There will be an optional campus tour. The open house provides a venue for families to explore the value of a tailored approach to their child's education. Community
members are encouraged to attend to learn more about Custom Learning Academy. All open house attendees will receive a 20 percent discount coupon for dinner at The Lodge, CLA's neighbor.

One second grade parent shares, Our son is at Custom Learning Academy and not only loves it but has thrived in every way. Lisa Crosby is the quintessential education "pro" and child advocate. She clearly manages
and inspires her staff very effectively. She has created something so special with CLA, and her energy, enthusiasm, and determination to help the kids prosper shows every day.

CLA offers a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and is recognized by NCAA for college bound athletes hoping for scholarships. Among other benefits, WASC accreditation enables students to earn credits accepted by UC schools and qualify for Cal Grant loans. All
students learn a foreign language and musical instrument. In addition to full time enrollment, CLA works with dozens of public school students on a regular basis through private tutoring, homework club
and courses-for-credit. An affordable, fun and educational summer camp will be offered on a weekly basis this summer. Find out more at the open house on March 21. For more information, visit http://www.customlearning.org or call (530) 587-5470.
