Frakes is a ceramic instructor at Sierra College. She has also taught art classes at Indiana University and College of the Redwoods. During the summer months she works as a Wilderness Ranger in the Desolation
Wilderness. She received her BFA from CSU Long Beach and her MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington. Frakes loves spending time experimenting in the studio and exploring the local mountains.

"A hallmark of Sierra College's Insights is interactivity. Incredible people in our community have been hand picked to share their expertise in an engaging and educational way that will appeal to many ages," explains Bateman. "We are especially fortunate to have excellent instructors on the Tahoe-Truckee campus and in October welcome our ceramics professor, Melanie Frakes to Sierra College Insights."

The next Sierra College Insights program is Circuit Basics and includes creating an LED flashlight with Claudio Bravo on Nov 9.
