Truckee Pet Policies

It pays to know the Truckee Pet Polices - breaking the Truckee Pet Rules can be expensive, and add to the cost of Pet Ownership!

Village at Squaw Valley - Dog Owners need to be on Leash Sign!

Town of Truckee Animal Services Department

The Town of Truckee Animal Services Department sets the Animal Rules in Truckee: (here are links to their information)

  • Town of Truckee Animal Services Dept Home Page - you can find information on all of the following from this summary page!
  • Mission Statement
  • Dog Licenses
  • Animals at Large  - I had one experience with the Town of Truckee Animal Control and it was great. Shortly after getting my Golden Retriever, Jewel, it was a gorgeous day and I left her in my backyard while I was at work. I had a 1/4 acre fenced yard and an older dog in the yard, so I thought she would be fine. Unfortunately, she dug under the fence and escaped, and a neighbor called Animal Control and she was picked up. I called as soon as my daughter called me in a panic, and they stayed after hours until I showed up to get her, so that she would not have to stay there over night. I thought that was above and beyond service, as well as saving me some money!

This is a hilarious video that I found about a Talking Dog. I can't begin to tell you how many times, I've already watched it! It always makes me laugh!!

At the time I posted this video on this page, it had over 55 Million views on YouTube, so I'm not alone in thinking this was fantastic!!

Pet Friendly Truckee Hiking Trails

Check out a Book called, "A Bark in the Park", that has information about "40 Dog Friendly hikes" in the Reno and Lake Tahoe area.

  • Northstar Hiking During the summer, dogs are welcome to ride the Northstar Gondola and hike with guests while on leash in the Mountain Biking & Hiking Park. The Village at Northstar is very dog friendly, as I recently found out at the Amgen Tour of California Wine Walk at Northstar. (I highly recommend any Truckee Activity that has the word "Wine" in it!)

  • Squaw Valley Hiking Here is Squaw Valley's dog policy (as of 6/5/11): You are welcome to bring your dog with you on your hike at Squaw Valley. Please be sure to bring a leash as all dogs must be leashed while riding in the Cable Car and inside any buildings or facilities. There is no charge for dogs on the Cable Car. Once at High Camp, your dog is welcome on the hiking trails, however, dogs are not permitted at the roller skating rink and pool, nor in any restaurants. We ask that you use your best judgment in leashing them on the trails.

See: Truckee Hiking for additional information about Truckee and Lake Tahoe Hiking.

Truckee Park Leash Law
